Andy Murray beats Kevin Anderson to claim 500th ATP Tour win

Murray battles to win over Anderson

Andy Murray has claimed his 500th win on the ATP Tour by beating Kevin Anderson 6-4 3-6 6-3 in the fourth round of the Miami Open.

It was an impressive start to the match from the British number one as he immediately attacked the Anderson serve to claim a break in the opening game.

Anderson continued to look vulnerable on his own serve, but despite a couple of openings for the South African late in the set, Murray held his nerve to twice hold from difficult positions before taking the opener.

There was a much different pattern to the match early in the second set as Anderson started to grow in confidence from the back of the court, and he was rewarded with a break.

A string of errors from Murray on serve opened the door for the 15th seed, who capitalised to race into a 4-0 lead.

Murray would immediately hit back with a break of his own, but Anderson continued to improve on serve to force the match into a deciding set.

The two players traded breaks early in the third, before Murray took advantage of a poor service game from his rival to take the lead with another crucial break of serve in the fourth game.

Anderson was unable to produce a response to the latest setback, and Murray dominated the longer rallies in the latter stages to secure his progress in Florida.
